Vacuum casting, RIM and Rapid Metal Casting

Vacuum Casting

As an extension of our injection moulding capabilities, we are able to offer vacuum casting services to customers.

Vacuum casting manufactures strong and rigid plastic parts using a thermosetting plastic. The outcome is high quality parts with superior visual appearance and unlimited shape intricacy. Vacuum casted parts can be manufactured with smooth or spark surfaces as well as with a rigid, elastic, pigmented or transparent appearance.  The first batch of orders are shipped in 15 days or less, with additional parts shipped later according to agreed delivery times.

Part sizes range from 10mm to 500mm with typical wall thickness between 1-3mm. When a part is too large or has part-related geometry issues that inhibits us from quoting it with injection moulding, vacuum casting might still be an alternative. Also, if your order volume is too low to justify investing in an aluminium tool, vacuum casting is a good alternative.

Vacuum casting materials are simulating characteristics of thermoplastic materials and very suitable for high-end prototypes and ultra-short series production.

Your advantages at a glance:

  • Cost-effective compared to injection moulding in ultra-short series.
  • Ability to produce parts from 3D CAD files without drafts or with intricate shapes.
  • Coloured or transparent rigid or flexible parts with smooth or spark like surface.

Low pressure RIM-casting

As an extension of our injection moulding capabilities, we are able to offer low pressure Reactive Injection Moulding (RIM)-casting services to customers.  The first batch of parts are shipped in 15 days or less, with additional parts shipped later according to agreed delivery times.

Low pressure RIM-casting manufactures strong and rigid plastic parts using a thermosetting plastic.  The outcome is high quality stiff housings and covers (in a black colour), often used in technical applications. RIM parts are normally more rigid and larger, with thicker walls, than those produced used vacuum casting.

Part sizes range from 50mm to 800mm with typical wall thickness between 2-5mm. RIM-casting is a faster process than traditional vacuum casting, thus giving better economy of scale when more than 10 parts are needed.

RIM-casting materials simulate the characteristics of thermoplastic materials and are suitable for rigid and larger technical parts in prototype and ultra-short series production.

Your advantages at a glance:

  • Cost-effective compared to injection moulding.
  • Ability to produce parts from 3D CAD files without drafts or with intricate shapes.
  • Black, rigid parts that generally require expensive tooling

Rapid Metal Casting

Our Rapid Metal Casting process manufacturers parts with complex geometries in aluminium and zinc alloys. The benefits of this service include strength, thermal expansion and the structural stability of metal; with parts shipped in 15 days or less.

Rapid Metal Casting process utilises a 3D-printed polystyrene master and a plaster mould. If a 3D CAD file has negative or zero drafts and closed geometries, we will still be able to cast the parts. With smooth surface structure and high tolerances, parts produced in aluminium are used for both prototyping and production.

Part sizes can range from 50mm to 300mm with typical wall thickness between 1-5mm. Rapid Metal Casting can manufacture parts in aluminium and zinc alloys, plus we are able to accept customer specific alloys in these materials.

Your advantages at a glance:

  • Very fast deliveries compared to traditional casting suppliers.
  • Ability to produce parts from 3D CAD files without drafts and with intricate shapes.
  • Rigid parts in final material, enables test and certification early in the project life cycle
  • Expensive tooling costs for die or sand casting can be avoided.
